FAQ Photovoltaics

Here you will find the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on qualifications for work on photovoltaics.

What training courses are offered for working on photovoltaic systems?

We offer training for the installation, maintenance and servicing of PV systems, including qualifications as EiP and ESfdt as well as live line work.

Are your photovoltaic training courses also suitable for non-electrical specialists?

Yes, our training courses are also aimed at electrotechnically instructed persons and provide the necessary qualification for certain activities.

What is a electrotechnically instructed person (EiP) for photovoltaics?

The EiP for PV can carry out non-electrical work on and in the vicinity of photovoltaic systems as well as installation work in a voltage-free state under the direction and supervision of a electrical specialist for photovoltaics.

electrical specialist for defined tasks (ESfdt) for photovoltaics?

The ESfdt for PV carries out standardized, repetitive electrotechnical work in a voltage-free state. Including disconnecting, connecting, standardized measuring and commissioning. All activities may only be carried out in accordance with work instructions (checklist).

What is the maintenance of professional competence electrical specialist (ES) for photovoltaics?

VDE 1000-10 has required proof of maintenance of professional competence of electrical specialist since 2021. The course ES for PV is recommended to be completed every three years. It is not only about the basics, but also about innovations in the standards and requirements for electrical specialist in the photovoltaic sector. The course includes the annual instruction.

What is meant by live line work in photovoltaics?

LLW for PV is the required additional qualification for electricians and ESfdt for working on live parts of photovoltaic systems that cannot be disconnected in accordance with § 8 DGUV regulation 3 in conjunction with DGUV R 103-011/012.

Do I have to do a EiP training course before I can become a ESfdt?

No, you can do a ESfdt training course directly.

Do I need a separate qualification for systems and inverters that are operated in large systems with 800 V instead of 400 V?

As electrical specialist this is not necessary, but of course you must familiarize yourself with all technically relevant specifications (such as component, cable and manufacturer specifications) and comply with them.
a ESfdt must be instructed by electrical specialist for every job, every tool, every measuring device and every component. However, it makes no fundamental difference whether an inverter from a new manufacturer is simply introduced or one that no longer uses 400 V but 800 V technology. The handling, specifications and dangers must be pointed out.
but the qualifications we offer are generally valid for the entire low-voltage range up to 1000 V AC and 15000 V DC.
